I can't remember the first baseball game I watched. I can't remember the first time I walked into Kauffman Stadium. I don't remember the first time I heard a home run crack off the end of a bat.
But I will remember the way that it sounds.
There's nothing like sweating through the ninth inning under the stadium lights, or the smell of beer and peanut shells. If baseball is America's game then I'm as patriotic as it can get.
The most beautiful thing about baseball isn't the uniforms or the multi-million dollar stadiums, it's not even the players. The most beautiful part of baseball is how the game has a personalized meaning and feeling for everyone. I still remember hot, dark, summer nights laying on my dad's bed upstairs listening to the familiar voice announce the starting lineups on the tv. The ceiling fan was on, the windows were open, and even though we weren't at the stadium we were at the baseball game.
Among all the gems in Kansas City I seriously cherish this one the most.
I have a community, a family, and we all bleed Royal blue.
